Press Release
EOHR condemns the racist trends
against Islam in the American media.
EOHR expresses
its extreme condemnation of the racist trends of American media and
press, which embodied hatred feelings against Muslims and Arabs. In
this regard, the information included in the last press release of the
Council on American- Islamic Relations (CAIR) indicated a provocative
insulting cartoon published by Tallahassee Democrat newspaper in the
state of Florida. The famous cartoonist Doug Marlette depicted a man
as the prophet Mohammed, showing him driving a nuclear bomb-laden
truck similar to the one used by Timothy McVeigh in the 1995 Oklahoma
bombing. The cartoon was headlined” What Would Mohammed Drive?”
Noteworthy is that CAIR
has recently protested some works that hurt the feelings of
Christians; a commercial in which the Jesus was depicted in an
improper way.
EOHR casts its vote along
with the vote of CAIR to call upon an urgent apology for this racist
defamatory cartoon which hurt the feelings of Muslims inside and
outside America. EOHR affirms the necessity of the cessation of all
racist practices in the American, western or any other media. Such
practices would hatred feelings and would threaten the peaceful
climate among different religions and would hinder the effort exerted
to create a constructive dialogue among various cultures.
