EOHR’s Campaign to cease the emergency
state
“Towards
a future without emergency”
Roundtable hosted by EOHR
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights
(EOHR) will held on Wednesday, 5th February 2003 at 6:00
a.m., a round-table entitled “Towards a future without emergency”
which comes on the occasion of EOHR’s campaign for the cessation of
the emergency law no. 162 of year 1958 in Egypt . Worth mentioning
that, the state of emergency is supposed to be renewed next May which
means that this law has been used continuously for 22 years.
The participants in this symposium are
representatives from civil society institutions, political trends,
journalists and academics. The suggested topics of discussion are:
First: Forms of solidarity work targets
urging authorities to cease the renewal of the emergency law.
Second: Monitoring and evaluating the
negative impacts of the emergency state on the legal, political and
social structures.
Third: Towards promoting the role of all
social and political trends in order to remove the negative impacts of
the emergency state.
EOHR’s holds this meeting and hopes that
it will motivate wide-range efforts of Egyptian society trends in
order to discuss this serious issue as the cessation of the emergency
state is considered a decisive step which shall promote the democratic
development and motivate the human rights situation in Egypt.
The chairperson of this round-table
meeting is the head (Sheik) of judges, the counselor Yehia El Refa’i,
and the ex- vice president of the Cessation Court and the honored of
the Egyptian judges club. |
