With the on going application of the emergency law
The arrest of 12 members of the Muslim Brotherhood group
The National Security Intelligence arrested 12 members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood group from the students of the teachers college in the Fayoum University and they are: Mohamed AbdelAziz, Ibrahim AbdelRazik, Mohamed Sayed AbdelAzim, Diaa AlDin Ragab,AbdelRAhman Koleyeb, AbdelRAhman AbdelRAhman, Sobhy Badawy, Goma Mohamad, Mohamad Foad, Mahmoud Abdalla, Ahmed Owees, Hamada Biltagy. The concerned authorities have issued the warrant of their detention due to their activities during the time of the elections of the students' unions which took place some weeks ago.
Giving the fact that the group members were arrested two days ago and were put to confine in the National Security Intelligence headquarters in Fayoum, until there was an order for their detention on 8/12/2003, they were deported to Torra's farm prison. This incident is a continuation of a routine and well-known phenomenon in the government's stand against the Muslim Brotherhood group who its members are being arrested and are faced with similar accusations in most of the cases and the accused are subject to the temporary detention and in spite of the fact of the routine nature of the arrests of the group members, It is usually connected to certain incidents like General or local or university students' union elections.
We also mention that there was an order of arrest issued lately from Fayoum head of police department to arrest 9 persons for 15 days -waiting to be trialled- to be accused of joining the banned Muslim Brotherhood group and they are: Ahmed Ibrahim Bayoumy, Mohamed Mustafa AlSawah, Mustafa Mahmoud, Walaa ElDin Azmy, Ashraf ElSAyed hassan, Adil Ahmed, Atef Mohamed, Sayed Foad, Mohamed ElSaadany.
The EOHR again expresses its disturbance with the over use of the emergency law against human rights law, which one of its important rights is the right of freedom and personal safety and also the overuse of the head of police department in using the temporary detention which turned into punishment especially that the incidents of the group members' arrest revealed that the majority of them are set free and that those who are referred to Court were not trialled in front of his natural judge but in front of the exceptional Judiciary according to the emergency law.
In that matter the Egyptian Organization for human rights stresses the importance of abolishing the application of the emergency law considering that it is the legislative tool that diminishes the right of freedom and personal safety and other rights that is provided by the Egyptian constitution and the international accords concerned with human rights
