EOHR calls for the immediate release of Engineer.
    Mohamad Bahaa ELDin

    16 / 12 / 2003
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) expresses its great concern and disapproval at the public persecutors' issued verdict of detention that Engineer. Mohamad Bahaa AlDin be detained for fifteen days and for the keeping his personal car as public possessions. The crime that he was accused of is inflammatory propaganda to despise governmental authority in the case number 8391 for the year 2003 managerial. Zagazig police office number one:

It is important to mention that Engineer Mohamed Bahaa AlDin last Sunday wrote the phrase:" No for the inheritance of governmental authority' on one of the walls in the Sharqiya governorate. Shortly after that he was arrested in his house with the assent of police officers and national security investigations. His house has been searched, some of his personal possessions have been collected, and his car was kept as public possession.

He was taken to Zagazig police station number one. He was put in the place specific for arresting criminals. Next morning he was put to court in front of the public persecutors who accused him of the crime of inflammatory propaganda to despise governmental authority. They decided to arrest him for fifteen days as a defendant of the case number 8391 for the year 2003 managerial for the Zagazig police office number one.

The EOHR sees that the detention of Engineer Mohamad Bahaa AlDin and his accusation of inflammatory propaganda to despise governmental authority -just because he expressed his opinion publicly - is a contradiction to what came in the Egyptian constitution, which states in act 47 that:" freedom of expression is a right to everyone and any one can express his opinion publicly through: speech, writing, photographing, or any other means of expression within limits of the law, also constructive criticism to insure public order, and what the international agreements concerned with human rights, especially civil and political rights for the act number 19 that Egypt signed.

The EOHR asks for the aid of the concerned authorities in general and especially the President , Mr. Mohamad Husny Mubarak to immediately interfere to release Engineer Mohamad Bahaa AlDin and stopping dealing with the case number 83911 for the year 2003 managerial for the Zagazig police station number one. knowing that the defendant was confronted with the accusation in the past but in a different form on 23/1/1999 where the public persecutes of Bandar Damanhour decided to arrest the citizen Mahmoud Tayfour- who is a student- for 30 days as a defendant under trial because of the accusation of attempting to send letters to the Presidency carrying phrases like:"truth is lost and fairness is lost in your era Mubarak, no security, no to Mubarak" the President. Mr. Mohamad Hussny Mubarak kindly issued an order to immediately release the citizen Mahmoud Tayfour and to stop the case investigations as a means of promoting the right of freedom of opinion and expression and as an application of the acts of the Egyptian constitution.
