The role of civil society organisations in spreading a human rights culture. A training session for university students.

EOHR (the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights) is holding a training session from 11th-13th October 2004 for students from Cairo University and the American University in Cairo under the title the role of civil society organizations in spreading human rights culture. The sessions will be held at the Student Activities Center, 193 26th of July Street, Agouza, Cairo. This session come as a part of a series of training sessions organized by EOHR for different sectors of society (Lawyers, journalists, etc.).
Some eighty students from Cairo University and the American University in Cairo will participate in this training course. A group of human rights activists, lawyers, professors, intellectuals will be giving a series of lectures during the three days of the training courses.
The course will be divided into two sections. The first, theoretical section includes a series of lectures about the historical development of human rights, the international legitimacy of human rights, international humanitarian law and national and regional mechanisms for supporting human rights. The lectures will emphasize the role of human rights organizations in spreading a culture of human rights and democratic principles. The lectures will also tackle the role of EOHR in the field of human rights and the main obstacles facing Egyptian civil society. The lectures will be concluded by an open session during which students and trainers will consider obstacles hindering rights and freedoms in Egypt.
The second, practical section will introduce students to the mechanisms of EOHR's work obstacles facing the organisation and methods of overcoming them.
