8/10/2005
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) is anxious towards Sami el Leithy's being ill-treated in Egyptian detention places. El Leithy was imprisoned in Guantanamo prison, and then he was transferred to Egypt in October 2005, accordingly, EOHR demands discovering his detention place and to release him due to his deteriorated health condition.
El Leithy (49 years) was detained without being prosecuted, for nearly three and a half years in Guantanamo prison; despite his deteriorated health condition (disabled due to an injury in the vertebral column), though EOHR express its anxiousness towards repeating the same scenario in Egypt.
In 1986, el Leithy left Egypt, traveled to Pakistan lodged with his kindred, later to Afghanistan, and finally returned to Pakistan where he was arrested via US forces, which imprisoned him (for three years and a half) in Guantanamo prison. In addition, US Military Court released him in July, and then transferred him to Egypt in October 2005.
EOHR refuses US improper act via transferring el Leithy to Egypt after releasing him, accordingly, EOHR calls the government to find out his detention place, and to deal with him within the Constitution and international human rights instruments. EOHR also, called Interior Minister; Habib el Adly to permit fact-finding mission to visit him in his location, confirm about his treatment, and make necessary legal procedures to release him.
