Statement Two
Alexandria Elections: EOHR Calls for Immediate Inquiry into a Death Incident
|
20/11/2005
The Egyptian Organisation for Human Rights (EOHR) expresses its full denunciation of a Mohamed Khalil Ibrahim's, private driver of Hassan Hussein (Independent-Guild, Goumrouk- Manshya Constituency, Alexandria) decease.
While standing in front of the Egyptian Company for Navigation Warehouse Sub-Committee, Ibrahim was attacked by unknown persons who stabbed him with a cold steel in different parts of his body upon which he was sent, in a critical state, to Raas Al-Tein Hospital where he died.
That aside, an EOHR observer has recorded three persons stabbing an Ahmed Maatouq, Dr. Abdel Hamid Zagloul's, a Muslim Brotherhood candidate, agent in the neck inside Oum Al-Mohseneen School Sub-Committee, Idkuo-Rashid Constituency, Behira. Maatouq was sent, again in a critical state, to the Governmental Hospital, Alexandria. People there were able to get their hands on an attacker called Khamis Mohamed Salah.
While denouncing violence and bullying incidents in Alexandria and Behira, EOHR does call upon concerned authorities to immediately apprehend culprits, examine attendant circumstances, and to arraign defendants.
EOHR does also call upon security authorities to give up their negative neutrality during elections and to intervene as necessary to help avoid recurrence of such rioting and bullying acts thus securing safety of citizens.
