EOHR condemns the arrest of 129 candidates representatives in the parliamentary elections third Phase
|
1/12/2005
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) is anxious towards 129 candidates' representatives arrested in the parliamentary elections third phase, which was held in four Governorates (Domiatt, Al-Daqahli, Al-Sharqia and Kafr El Sheikh), and these acts are considered a violation to the right to freedom, personal security, the right of state's affairs management and political participation, they are all guaranteed by the Constitution and international human rights instruments.
Moreover the monitoring observatory declared that the poll stations witnessed systematic arrests to some independent candidates' representatives.
Accordingly EOHR fears that the violent arrests performed could be a device to carry out emergency law, and it declared that these acts took place in purpose to affect elections negatively, though EOHR calls the authorities for releasing the arrested immediately and investigate with the group who performed these acts via a suitable lawsuit. EOHR also recalls the state's Interior Ministry to adopt neutrality and transparency in dealing with the elements of the whole electoral process.
