5/2/2006
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) denounces pending (George Galawy), member of the British House of Commons for 16 continuous hours in Cairo Airport, which curbed his participation in the Conference entitled (International War Criminals Prosecution), organized under command of Arab Lawyers Union.
Galawy was invited (on Friday and Saturday) in Lawyers Syndicate to participate in the Conference of the international public prosecution for [(George Bush), USA President, (Toni Blair), the British Prime Minister and (Ariel Sharon), former Israeli Prime Minister].
Unexpectedly, he was put under custody and his mission was cancelled. Later, Dream Space Channel held a conversation with Galawy in TV Show (10 pm) on Saturday (4/2 /2006), He stated 'I came via Egypt Air Airlines , with an invitation for participating in the international public prosecution, in purpose to represent a testimonial on war criminals before Judiciary, unexpectedly I was put under custody for almost an hour, without an inquiry, then taken to an unbearable dirty cell prison inside the Airport, the detained took 16 continuous hours -without food- surrounded by cuffed people, I was freed after the prosecution was finished without knowing their goal for this ill treatment'.
EOHR declared that George Galawy's pending, was practiced without any legal motive, which is considered a violation to international human rights instruments guaranteed via the Government under command of Article 151 of the Constitution.
Accordingly EOHR on its behalf, declares an official apology to the member of the British House of Commons on the ill treatment he received, and confirms that security office in the Airport is not licensed to put travellers under pending regardless to the nationality (Egyptian or foreigner), but it could be done in case of Judiciary's approval licence.
