EOHR condemns assaults against KIFAYA and kindred of Al-Salam Steamer victims

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) condemns security forces' assaults against kindred of Al-Salam Steamer 98 victims and KIFAYA (Youth of Change) Movement activists, in which it violates the Constitution and international human rights instruments, though EOHR calls upon the General-Prosecutor to hold immediate investigation for the incident and check out defendants.
On Tuesday 14th February 2006, security forces bolted a peaceful assembly in Down town held by KIFAYA activists and kindred of Al-Salam Steamer victims, but they permitted another assemble before Supreme Judicial Council, besieged with (eight central military cars and two armored).
In an attempt to move the crowd to Ramsis Square, security forces practiced violence acts to stop their attempt until Medhat Shaker was bruised in his right eye, also Kamal Khalil was subjected to tear gas bombs and beaten by militants with another colleague called Samir al-Sharqawy, the three belong to KIFAYA.
In light of its anger towards the violations made by forces against demonstrators and bolting their right to peaceful assembly which contradict with the Constitution and international human rights instruments, EOHR calls upon an immediate investigation on the assaults and to check out the defendants and bring them to court.
