EOHR demands openning investigation in banning Ayman Nour's weekly editorial
|
9/4/2006
EOHR is expressing its utmost concern regarding the information it came to posses about denying visits to Dr. Ayman Nour at Toura prison, suspect in case no. 169/2005 High State Security Court, and the administration's denial to deliver Ayman Nour's weekly editorial to the newspaper.
EOHR previously collected information that Mr. Amir Salem, Ayman Nour's attorney, was denied visits, which led to his protest at the prison for denying his visit to his defendant. Information also pointed out that the Prison's administration denied Ayman Nour from delivering his weekly editorial to his wife Mrs. Gamila Ismael and Mr. Hesham Kasem, the Vice President of Al Ghad party, which is published weekly in the Al Ghad newspaper, the official newspaper of the Ghad Party, which led to their strike at the office of the Prison's First Officer, protesting on the denial of Ayman Nour's editorial.
EOHR sees that denying the delivery of the weekly editorial of Ayman Nour is a breach to the right to free opinion and expression, and an illegal procedure taken by the Prison's Administration.
Noteworthy, huge pressures were exerted on Ayman Nour's wife during her visits to the prison, especially during the days of his article delivery.
EOHR presented reports to each of the National Council for Human Rights and the Prisons Department, asking for investigating the facts of denying Mr. Amir Salem his visits to Dr. Ayman Nour, and also denying the delivery of Nour's weekly editorial.
