A group of political activists and journalists organized a demonstration in front of the Journalists Syndicate on the first anniversary of the "Black Wednesday" which witnessed sever assaults on a group of journalists in 2005.

Shortly after the demonstration ended, both Sharkawy and El Shaeer were kidnapped, while they where driving a car near the Syndicate ,by some officers, as they snatched Sharkawy out of the car and took him to a building in Abdel Khalek Tharwat Street, and they started beating him with hands and legs tell he hit the ground. They were about twenty persons, and they had beaten him in a barbaric way for more than 20 minutes.

After that, Sharkawy was dragged on the floor and stairs, and he was taken in a microbus. While inside the microbus, he was beaten by one officer on the face, then he was ordered to put his head between his legs then they hit him on the back. Then he was taken to Kasr el Nil Police Station blindfolded, where he was forced to strip off his clothes, tortured and raped.
