30/5/2006
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) condemns the cancellation of the 6th National Summit of the Tunisian League for Human Rights by the Tunisian Authorities, the Summit was estimated to take place on 27th - 28th of May 2006.
The Tunisian League for Human Rights (LTDH) had invited many Tunisian and international public figures to take part in the celebration of the 29th Anniversary of the establishment of LTDH and its 6th Summit to take place on 27th - 28th of May 2006.
The members of LTDH and the summit's guests were surprised by the presence of Tunisian security forces blocking all the ways leading to the LTDH premises. A metal cordon was made surrounding the central headquarter of LTDH, and even the guests were banned from attending the summit and they were separating by force.
Accordingly, EOHR declares its solidarity with LTDH and demands the Tunisian Authorities to stop all the unexcused intimidations practiced against LTDH and enabling its members to hold the summit and elevate the cordon surrounding the LTDH headquarter and allowing it to continue its activities according to the international documents of human rights ratified by the Tunisian government, in addition to the promises presented by the Tunisian government to the UN General Assembly upon nominating to the International Human Rights Council.
