EOHR Announces the Release of its Annual Report 2005

EOHR holds a press conference next Thursday 21st Of September 2006 to announce the release of its 16th Annual Report of the year 2005, which contains documentation of human rights and basic freedoms situations in Egypt through the last year 2005.
The Annual Report is one of the most important releases of EOHR, as it gives a general view of human rights situation in a year according to information acquired and documented by EOHR.
EOHR documented in its Report a group of violations concerned with different aspect related to human rights.
In the case of civil and political rights, EOHR's Fieldwork Unit monitored and documented violations falling under this category, such as right to life, freedom and personal rights, enforced disappearance, treatment of prisoners, fair trial, freedom of opinion and expression, peaceful assembly, political participation, forming political parties, associations and syndicates.
As for economic and social rights, the Fieldwork Unit documented violations experienced by Egyptians abroad, in addition to violations to right to work, health care, housing, education and clean environment.
In this context, EOHR affirms that these documented violations represent only examples, and don't constitute a statistical fact. These violations are just indication to the occurrence of violations of such rights mentioned above. EOHR maintained a level of neutrality and subjectivity in documenting such violations.
This Report is mainly divided into three different sections :
Section One:
Tackles legal developments, judicial verdicts and all procedures related to human rights in Egypt through 2005.
Section Two:
Which is the main body of the report, containing the outcome of monitoring, documenting and follow-ups with human rights situations in Egypt through 2005.
Section Three:
this section presents EOHR's activities statistically through 2005, whether in the field of monitoring and documenting, or EOHR's activities in spreading human rights culture, in addition to its specialized program on women's legal aid.
EOHR's 2005 Report also contains a group of recommendations and demands concerning the rights documented.
EOHR hopes that these recommendations would be considered by the Egyptian authorities, and to draw the attention of intellectuals, writers and all the civil society in Egypt, aiming to unite the efforts to work for eliminating such violations which threaten the human rights in Egypt.
