The Electoral Reform Forum Discusses the Constitution Amendments

The Electoral Reform Forum holds its third meeting at the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights office on the 16th January 2007 to discuss the Constitution amendments related to elections represented in Articles 5,88,62 and 94. the aim of the meeting is to reach final suggestions concerning these articles. The meeting will be attended by members of the parliament and Shura Council, representatives of political and partisan powers, professors of constitutional law and human rights activists.
The establishment of The Electoral Reform Forum came as an outcome of EOHR's annual intellectual forum entitled " Electoral system in Egypt….Necessities and Mechanisms" which took place in October 2006. The forum's members will have the task to review all what is related to the electoral process, including the legal framework, the law regulating elections, the mechanisms of administering the process, the supervision of the elections and participation of minorities and marginalized groups (Women and Copts). The ultimate goal is reaching the most suitable electoral system to the Egyptian society with all its political, social and cultural streams. Also a draft law of the Law on Exercising Political Rights will be presented instead of Law 73/1956 and its amendments with Law 173/2005. This draft law will be presented to the President of the republic and the heads of the parliament and the Shura Council.

- Dr. Manar El Shourbagy, political science professor at the American University in Cairo.
- Dr. Abdul Monam Elmashat, head of the Political Research and Study Center.
- Dr. Mostafa El Nasharty, professor at the faculty of economics.
- Dr. Shawky el Saiid, member of the Shura Council.
- Dr. Abdel Monam Alelaimy, former member of the parliament.
- Mr. Abu Elazz Elhariry, former member of the parliament.
- Dr. Ahmed Abo Baraka, MP
- Dr. Gamal Zahran, MP.
- Dr. Akram Elshaer, MP.
- Eng. Mahoud Amer, MP.
- Mr. Ali Fateh Elbab, MP.
- Judge Hisham Bastawesy, vice president of the Court of Cassation.
