7/3/2007
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights has launched its campaign "Justice for PoW's of 1956 and 1967"
EOHR calls upon human rights activists, intellectuals, writers, political elites and common citizens to take part in the signatures-gathering campaign launched by EOHR to present the perpetrators of war crimes of the wars of 1956, 1967 and the War of Attrition to justice and to restore all the rights of Egyptian PoW's. EOHR's campaign comes as a reaction to the inhumane massacres committed against Egyptian PoW's and civilians which is considered a severe violation to international human rights documents and the four Geneva Conventions of 1949.
Its worth mentioning that EOHR presented many petitions to the Prosecutor General to proceed public lawsuits and to run investigations in reports related to crimes against Egyptian PoW's and civilians, which are considered punishable crimes according to the Egyptian Penal Code and also international conventions. EOHR also issued a book in 1997 which included documents, evidences and accusation materials in accordance with the Egyptian law, the 4th Geneva Convention and other international instruments. The book also included live testimonies of PoW's and civilians during the Wars of 1956, 1967 and the War of Attrition.
EOHR is now preparing a specialized report on war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Israeli Army against Egyptian PoW's and civilians during the Wars of 1956, 1967 and the War of Attrition. This report will be presented to the Egyptian Government to expose the Israeli war crimes.
