EOHR workshop: 'guarantees for judicial independence in Egypt'

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) is holding a workshop, 'guarantees for judicial independence in Egypt' on Wednesday, 23rd May 2007 at 6 p.m. in the Journalists' Syndicate in Alexandria. Judges, law professors, members of the People's Assembly and Shura Council, politicians and civil society activists will take part in the workshop.
Hafez Abu Seada, EOHR's Secretary General explained that the workshop will seek to put forward guarantees of judicial independence in light of international human rights instruments in order to strengthen and improve the independence of the Egyptian judiciary and of judges as individuals, and strengthen the role of the legislative branch in the laws governing judicial work as well as the role of NGOs. It will also the views of political currents and civil society towards recent amendments of the Judicial Authority Law and the Constitution.
