EOHR welcomes the health release of Ahmed Mohamed Mazloum

EOHR welcomed the decision of Attorney General Abdel Megeed Mahmoud concerning health release of prisoner Ahmed Mohamed Mazloum, the inmate of Tora prison due to his bad health.
It is mentioned that the accused is sentenced to 3 years imprisonment as he was charged with possessing drugs in case No. 14868 /2004 registered under No.654/2002 North Giza.
EOHR received the complaint of the prisoner's family in 2005 informing that the mentioned prisoner was infected with a brain concussion and a fracture in the backbone which had lead to a full paraplegia and inability to control urine and stool. There are also fractures in his right thigh hip and thorax cage due to car accident before his arrest and he was infected with virus C which led to liver and spleen inflation and deficiency in liver function. The prisoner was infected with ulcers bed in his back and legs and arms during his existence inside the hospital of Tora prison.
Immediately after receiving the complaint of the above mentioned prisoner, EOHR sent many reports to both the Attorney General, the Interior Ministry and the Director of Prison Administration concerning health releasing for the mentioned prisoner, according to what Articles 489-486 of criminal procedure and Article 3 of Law 396 -1996 have stated .
In January 2007 a press release was issued by EOHR concerning the healthy case of the prisoner and the Attorney General was called to set him free.
EOHR praises the decision taken by the Attorney General about healthy freeing of the mentioned prisoner. It also confirmed that there are many dangerous cases inside the prisons which need to be released in accordance with international covenants on human rights and in support of the values and principles of human rights in Egypt.
