EOHR Welcomes the Release of 33 Palestinians and Calls for Investigations into Torture Allegations

EOHR welcomed the release of 33 Palestinian who were detained by Egyptian government, it calls for committing investigations concerning torture allegations for some Palestinians in the Egyptian prisons.
In a meeting held on 22/3/2008 in the People’s Assembly, Mr. Hafez Abu Seada, Secretary-General, called public prosecution and investigations on torture committed against some Palestinians in Egyptian prisons to determine the perpetrator and bring him to trial. Abu Seada confirmed that torture is unacceptable in any situation.
The Egyptian Organization calls for taking immediate action to raise the Israeli siege imposed on Palestinians which cripples economic and social life in the Gaza Strip, which inhabited by over one million people. The rate of unemployment continues to rise, people below the poverty line increased, and the spread of epidemics and diseases due to Israeli occupation is also increasing.
The Egyptian Organization calls on the international community to put an end to the continued violations of human rights against Palestinians by the hands of the Israeli occupation forces. Some of these violations are communal arrest, targeting innocents, starvation, random shelling to cities and villages and the construction of the apartheid wall.
The Egyptian Organization calls on civil society to pressure the Israeli Government to respect its international commitments in the Geneva Convention, to the respect civilians during war and respect the international covenants on human rights.
